About Us

Our History

The Lewis County Literacy Council envisioned in 1971, is a community based organization and a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. We are housed, through a grant from the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges, in the Kirk Library on the Centralia College campus. Other funding comes from United Way of Lewis County, our annual Knowledge Bowl fundraiser, grants and in-kind donations.

To promote increasing job skills for our local workforce, we also advocate for increasing those skills thru our membership with the Centralia-Chehalis, and East Lewis County Chambers of Commerce.

Hoping to diminish future needs for adult literacy services we work closely with our United Way sister agencies to reduce the cycles of poverty that contribute to illiteracy and other social ills.
